Breaking in the 6.5 Creedmoor

Summer was wrapping up with fall right around the corner, it was time to break out the rifles to go sling a little bit of lead.  The family had a few early season tags, so these hunts would provide us the perfect opportunity to break in the newest member of our rifle collection, the 6.5 Creedmoor.

We were extremely anxious to get out hunting with the 6.5 Creedmoor to see just how well it would perform, especially at longer distances, since it would be the gun of choice for our upcoming limited entry elk hunt. The Creedmoor was equipped with a Burris Eliminator scope with a built in range finder that had been programmed for long range shooting. Up until now small bullet holes punched into stationary paper targets from the 143 gr. Hornady ELD-X bullets were all that we had to show for our efforts. It was now time to see how the setup would fair on big game.

Not quite as far as Natalie's shot, but Carson dropped his antelope at 462 yards!

Lucky Carson drew an August rifle elk tag...one shot kill @ 438 yards               Got himself a forest grouse too

To make a long story short, the Creedmoor lived up to all the hype! From antelope to elk, the 6.5 proved to be the real deal. Don’t be fooled by the light recoil, the effectiveness of this lethal caliber at long range was equally impressive. Next up, bull elk!
